Miami-Based Interior Designers Reveal Some Of Their Most Noteworthy Projects
By Paige Mastrandrea
Why is this project special to you?
Art has always played an important role in my life. This love affair with modern and contemporary art movements began in Mexico City, where I was born. My grandmother is an amazing artist. I studied art at Pratt before graduating in architecture. My clients for this project are savvy art collectors from Chicago. From the first meeting, I knew this project was going to be special and inspiring.
What inspired the design?
I wanted to create a private gallery-like experience. I used a warm, taupe and off-white palette combining textured materials to create the perfect canvas to highlight my client’s incredible art collection. This home was designed to welcome guests, so we created different seating areas for conversation, entertainment and lounging. One of the first steps in my design process was thinking about the lighting and how the natural and indirect lighting would play off the artwork throughout the home. The open plan allows for the continual experience as you move from one area into another. In the primary suite, I incorporated a calming color palette that showcased harmonious tranquility exemplified in the custom-designed leather headboard with oak wood walls accented by delicate sconces. The slats on the night tables are influenced by Japanese architecture. The lush wall-to-wall shag carpet immediately conjures relaxation and Zen.
How would you describe your aesthetic in three words?
Modern, sophisticated and architectural
